I'd like to offer an image of where I come from. My challenge is to trace my journey without drowning out the drama in the details. A little photo autobiography was one of the ways I explored my life journey to date. It's a soulful exercise in self discovery.
Look at what shows up on the face and in the eyes in these old photos. You may be able to see some of the subtleties I didn't recognize until many years after the fact. You'll see poignant evidence of what sometimes happens to teenagers working their way through adolescence. I'm more than the sum of these parts, but this is all part of me. I'll try to dig up some more recent pictures.

Note: When you click a thumbnail, a larger picture pops up with navigation buttons. Each photo in the expanded view has a note below it with the “backstory” that was beyond the reach of the camera and in some cases took a long time to discover. This is me and my wife Burna, an extraordinary teacher of teachers, avid reader, and devoted pianist. This is my favorite photo, which I call—with tongue in cheek—"Between a rock and a soft place." (Taken while visiting our friends, the Hamiltons, in California.)
